Glen David Gold on SunnysideGlen David Gold won commercial and critical success with his debut novel, Carter Beats the Devil. Eight years later, he's back with a new novel, Sunnyside, which follows the life of Charlie Chaplin against the backdrop of the first world war and the birth of the film industry. He talks to Sarah Crown about writing real figures into his fiction, the pleasures and pitfalls of research and the lure of Chaplin himself.
