James Purnell (looking like a bit player in a 70s cop show) shafts Gordon Brown. Et tu, James?
Interesting to think that this little shit, whose contempt towards tax payers was only too evident when she denied any wrongdoing over her expenses, clearly sees her resignation from the cabinet as part of a heroic rebellion to ditch Brown and save the country.
To quote the ever-opportunistic Guardian: "Gordon Brown was fighting to save his premiership today after Hazel Blears emboldened Labour MPs demanding a leadership election with a resignation statement timed to inflict maximum damage on the prime minister."
"Blears was furious with the way Brown recently described her decision not to pay capital gains tax when she sold a flat as "completely unacceptable"." Shame, there, Hazel.
"In her resignation statement, she declined to offer the customary expressions of praise and thanks to the prime minister, and instead declared that she wanted to "help the Labour party to reconnect with the British people ..."" You have to give the girl credit for her bullshit factor.
Polly Toynbee, The Guardian's resident 'left-wing' political commentator, hits new depths of taste when she metaphorically discusses the resignation of Purnell: "Another engine breaks away from Gordon Brown's fuselage, and the damage done looks set to bring him crashing out of the sky. Even if he can judder on, the injury done will diminish him further. Which other engines may now break away too?"
Now what else happened in the news this week?
"Five Britons and two Irish citizens are among the 216 passengers feared dead after an Air France plane crashed in the Atlantic, the airline said today, as officials admitted there was "no hope" for those on board." - The Guardian 1 June 2009
Classy.

What's with the colour change?
ReplyDeleteLoving the recent politicalisation of the blog. At last we're starting to engage in the political process. But I deplore the continued condemnation of our underpaid elected representatives as they face the wicked and unnecessary condemnation of the Press and public. Please keep it clean.
ReplyDeleteIt's sexier this way.
