And now, an advert...


Contains Otto Preminger's FALLEN ANGEL (1945), WHIRLPOOL (1949), WHERE THE SIDEWALK ENDS (1950) and Jules Dassin's NIGHT AND THE CITY (1950).

Individually, they cost about £20 each, thanks to the ridiculous pricing policy of the BFI, under whose auspices they were released. The box is £23 on Amazon (Boo! Hiss! Driving small and - whisper it - often useless) bookshops out of business!) at the moment.

Each film's good and Night and the City is especially interesting because it's set in an atmospherically photographed London and has a great central performance by Richard Widmark.
