When asked “What album would you take with you to a desert island?”, Carla Bruni replied: Nashville Skyline, “because it is everything I’ve always looked for, the words and music that you can sing over and over again.” On Tuesday April 7, 2009, she and her husband went to hear the author of Blowin’ in the Wind in concert at the Palais des Congrès in Paris. Dylan had never performed there. In his “Never-Ending Tour”, begun when he made his comeback with the producer Daniel Lanois (1989), the singer, in a mixture of folk, boogie-woogie and rock ’n’ roll, played some of his classics: The Times They Are A-Changin’, Masters of War, Highway 61 Revisited and also Like A Rolling Stone, superbly ignoring his latest album, due out three weeks later, Together Through Life. In his black Chicano hat and suit, in profile before the audience, the 67-year-old singer then proceeded to present his harmonica to the First Lady of France, who went to see him in the wings after the concert.
