THE Friday Boys are a disparate group of men spread across Tyneside who meet once a week - 'always on a Friday' - to talk about the arts, raise a glass to recently departed heroes and villains and, at the evening's end, down a whisky or two. The FBs have only one golden rule - talk of the working week is strictly off-limit.

Malibu Sunset
A not particularly essential little ditty, but an early non-Beach Boys Brian Wilson production from mid-1963 that may have been written by Brian and Gary Usher or Usher and Roger Christian or Brian and Christian - or just Brian. Intended as a demo for Andy Williams, the tape was supposedly 'lost'. Background vocals are more than likely Brian and Usher, but the lead is allegedly Glen Campbell (though I suspect it's Usher).
It sounds very calming. :)
ReplyDeleteThat's DEFINITELY NOT Glen Campbell - he would never sing as badly as that!
ReplyDeleteHighly evocative ballad. I take issue with the characterization as "not particularly essential". It is *absolutely* essential to any Brian Wilson collection.
