THE Friday Boys are a disparate group of men spread across Tyneside who meet once a week - 'always on a Friday' - to talk about the arts, raise a glass to recently departed heroes and villains and, at the evening's end, down a whisky or two. The FBs have only one golden rule - talk of the working week is strictly off-limit.

RIP Dorothy Bridges
Wife of Lloyd and mother of Jeff and Beau, who have been in far too many good and/or quirky American movies to mention (but, hey, there's Hal Ashby's The Landlord, Bob Rafelson's Stay Hungry, Steve Kloves' The Fabulous Baker Boys, Terry Gilliam's The Fisher King, Tony Richardson's The Hotel New Hampshire, Francis Coppola's Tucker: The Man and his Dream, Peter Bogdanovich's The Last Picture Show, Robert Benton's Bad Company, Jonathan Kaplan's Heart Like a Wheel, the Coen Brothers' The Big Lebowski, Martin Ritt's Norma Rae, Ivan Passer's Cutter's Way and Michael Cimino's Thunderbolt and Lightfoot to start with...), so credit where credit due.
